Elaine Pasqua is one of the premier speakers addressing the impact of high-risk behaviors at campuses across the United States. Since 1997 she has combined her life experience, passion and enthusiasm to transform the lives of a quarter of a million students as well as professional athletes. Her expertise encompasses high-risk drinking, sexual health, sexual assault, HIV/AIDS and prescription and illegal drug use. Elaine is known for her positive energy and interactive exercises which distinguish her programs from the rest. Her goal is to prevent people from making decisions that ultimately lead to regrets. She has positively impacted the lives of thousands as she encourages students to reflect on their legacy, while motivating them to make responsible choices. Students rave about her award-winning programs and state that she profoundly changed their lives.
While research consistently estimates that one in every four women in higher education will experience rape or attempted rape during their college careers, limited proactive approaches to address the issue are found on Texas college campuses, according to the Crime Victims’ Institute at Sam Houston State University.

John Todaro is the head recruiter for PhotoFax Inc., a nationally recognized leader in surveillance, compliance, and investigative services for the insurance industry.
In 1973, Sam Houston alumnus Don Cole began offering to local Houston businesses a service that provides pre-employment screening of job applicants. Now, 40 years later, his company has expanded to provide such services all across the country.
With more than 100 women graduating from a leadership training program for female executives, the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas added an annual conference to help participants engage in continuing education and networking opportunities.
To help identify victims after mass disasters, such as hurricanes, tsunamis, terrorist attacks, wars or acts of genocide, researchers at Sam Houston State University will investigate new techniques to preserve tissue samples and speed up the DNA identification process.

Our guest this week will be Dr. Sparks Veasey, the Montgomery County Medical Examiner. He will share with us some general information on Forensic Pathology and discuss the ME's role in crime scene investigation.
As interns, Iveth Salinas and Jocelyn Garmendez learned the ropes of being a juvenile probation officer in Harris County this summer and were given the chance to climb even higher by suggesting improvements to programs to executive staff of the agency.

The College of Criminal Justice will welcome students back with a week full of events to introduce them to the many opportunities available in the field and at the College.
CJ Welcome Week will be held from Sept. 9 – 12 and will include programs on surviving freshman year, introducing criminal justice student organizations, meeting faculty and staff, pursuing internships, and getting advice on undergraduate and graduate studies. The week will be topped off on Wednesday afternoon with a viewing of “Into the Abyss,” a documentary on a Death Row case from Conroe, followed by a discussion with Dr. Dennis Longmire, an expert on capital punishment.
