“I was quite happy when I was informed that I was this
year’s winner,” Hbeilini said. “It means a lot to me given that I am from
Lebanon and would like to employ my research and results to potentially help my
home country, the broader region and anywhere else I might be researching to
help counter terrorism.”

Kelsey Kramer has been awarded the Dr. Anat Kimchi Memorial Graduate Travel Award from the ASC Division on Corrections and Sentencing. The award is given to doctoral students who plan to present quantitative, data-driven research on topics related to corrections and sentencing, including recidivism and the study of formal institutions of social control.
“When I got the email telling me I won the award, I was
incredibly excited,” Kramer said. “I felt a huge sense of accomplishment. This
is the first award I have won from the division and hopefully not the last.”
Kramer and Hbeilini received their awards during the 2024
ASC annual meeting in November, which was held in San Francisco. Both say they
walked away from the experience encouraged.
“I always feel inspired after ASC, and this year was no
different,” Kramer said. “I was able to connect with some old colleagues and
establish new connections that I am hopeful will grow into collaborations. I
was also able to see several stellar panels that got me thinking about future
project ideas.”
“It was great being able to present my research and receive
the award,” Hbeilini said. “It was an honor to share my work with a community
of esteemed scholars and professionals. The recognition for my efforts has been
deeply motivating as I continue to advance and expand my studies in criminal
justice and criminology.”
